The White House Office of Faith-based and Neighborhood Partnerships works to build bridges between the federal government and nonprofit organizations, both secular and faith-based, to better serve Americans in need. The Office advances this work through 10 Agency Centers across government and a Strategic Advisor at the Corporation for National and Community Service. The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) is one of federal agencies working to carry out the mission of the White House through our Center for Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships Department.

The HUD  Las Vegas Field office coordinated the conference Partnerships for Such a Time as This on June 2, 2011 at the West Charleston Library Lecture Hall . The all day event brought together seven (7)   federal agencies U.S. Small Business Administration, Department of Veterans Affairs, Department of Health and Human Services and Department of Commerce Economic Development Assistance and Department of Agriculture Rural Development as well as HUD and the Federal Home Loan Bank of San Francisco.

There was information about  free technical assistance from several federal agencies and little known grants such as the Individual Development Accounts offered by Department of Health and Human Services that can be used for homeownership, college and or other types of job training. This was an unprecedented event for these. The  goal was to bring groups together to leverage resources and compete for some of the millions of dollars that may be available to the community.
