It’s A Love Thang!

Valentine’s Day is right around the corner — the perfect time to talk about the importance of couples getting healthy together. Support goes a long way, and having someone in your corner makes all the difference in the world. Here’s a few benefits to getting healthy with your mate:

• It will be easier if you both embrace a healthier lifestyle. When you’re both on the same path you can support each other. A study, from the Department of Kinesiology at Indiana University, surveyed couples and found that those who worked out separately had a higher dropout rate than couples who worked out together. If your mate does not share your commitment to fitness, it can be a distraction or even a deterrent that could eventually hold you back from achieving your goals.

• Adventure in trying new things together. You and your mate can explore new avenues for fitness. You can create new meals together, try new fitness workouts, possibly some that you wouldn’t have done alone. You learn you can tackle anything as a team, and that makes for a stronger relationship.

• Accountability. If you feel like you have a responsibility and commitment toward another person, you are more likely to follow through on that commitment. Accountability partners are great at motivating you, and can be your biggest cheerleaders. They can help you stay focused and keep your goals a priority. It’s good to know you don’t have to go at it alone.
