People are asking what the men are doing. The answer is they are doing all-white!
The 100 Black Men of Las Vegas recently hosted an All White Affair at the Eastside Cannery One Six Club, raising funds for their program to mentor young people in Clark County and help high school seniors pursue their dreams of higher education.
These men have dedicated their time and money to their programs. The 100 Black Men of Las Vegas Chapter was established in 2000 — when Larry Mosley, who migrated to Las Vegas while working as an IBM executive, had a vision of men coming together to make a difference in their community. He gathered an array of men living in Las Vegas who wanted to give back to youth.
Over the last 18 years, the organization has grown into an effective organization in mentoring and providing youth with the tools and resources needed to become successful in their daily lives.
Education and leadership are at the top of their agenda, and this focus really makes an impact for the young people, guiding them in a positive direction. Current President Shawn Smith, a retired Air Force officer and former assistant principal of the 100 Academy of Excellence, lives by the motto “What They See, Is What They’ll Be.” He believes the men of the 100 Black Men are a model example of strong black men, and can make their most indelible mark by sharing their knowledge and experience with the next generation.
