Nonprofits care for their community

By Cassandra Cotton, Nathan Adelson Hospice Community Outreach Manager

When people ask about Nathan Adelson Hospice, we often say, “We are the oldest, largest and only nonprofit hospice in Southern Nevada.”

Why do we make a point of mentioning that we’re “nonprofit”? Because there’s a real difference between nonprofit and for-profit hospices. Nonprofits are here to fulfill a mission — to care for people in their community. In our case, we do all we can to make sure that no one in our care ends the journey of life alone, afraid or in pain.

Donations to our foundation enable us to care for people who are uninsured or underinsured. We also help those in our care who are in need. We recently provided clothes to an impoverished family, and arranged for a refrigerator and food for another needy individual. The funds we raise also allow us to provide services that improve the quality of life for patients and families, such as complementary therapies, meal deliveries, supporting families in need, transportation, and staff education.

One of the most enjoyable ways to support us is to attend one of our events. Several of our most successful and entertaining events are coming soon: the Wine and Food Tasting Extravaganza, and Serenades of Life – Doctors in Concert, this year featuring the Lon Bronson Band.

We hope to see you there!

  • The 24th annual Serenades of Life-Doctors in Concert featuring Lon Bronson Band will be held on Saturday, October 19 at the Smith Center for the Performing Arts.
  • The 20th annual Wine and Food Tasting Extravaganza! will be held on Thursday, October 3 at The Industrial Event Center, 2330 Industrial Road, Las Vegas.
