Honoring our people, standing strong for opportunity in the Black community

The world is experiencing difficult times right now. But as humanity always does, we are pushing forward — and this issue celebrates many in our state who are honest, strong, and impactful. We recently honored many of these individuals with our Las Vegas Black Image Honors, and salute all who embrace “Diversity, Inclusion and Equity” in a real way.

Our recent Black History Month celebration at the Echelon Events Center for the 22nd Annual LV Taste & Sounds of Soul/Black Image Honors was a tremendous success. We thank all who made it possible — especially you, our faithful readers and supporters. Even though we were told the Taste & Sounds of Soul Festival could not take place in its original location on the Fremont Street Experience because of Boyd Gaming’s construction, we persevered and had a wonderful event.

It’s no secret that each year we have problems with hosting the Taste & Sounds of Soul Festival and Black Image Honors on Fremont Street Experience — with little help from elected politicians. Please remember this when you vote! The Taste and Sounds of Soul Festival gives Black-owned businesses a unique opportunity to sell their goods and products to the vast Las Vegas tourist market during Black History Month. We will never stop fighting for that access and exposure.

Elsewhere in this issue, we offer a rare glimpse of Blacks in Ukraine, as Vladimir Putin declares war in order to seize the country’s land. Our position is that any crime against humanity is a crime against all.

In Community Speaks, we reflect on the wisdom of our parents — who articulated a vision that is sure to inspire readers today.

We love to showcase the smiling faces of the people who are Black Image, and you can see them in the latest edition of Photos of the Month. As always, the many contributing writers who fill Black Image Magazine each month are giving their best. Please enjoy their insights and words.

If you have an interesting and inspirational story or photos to share, please email us at: cdalasvegas@gmail.com.

Bless you all! Enjoy!
