With our children back in school and the summer months drawing to a close, this issue of Las Vegas Black Image Magazine marks a new beginning.

Filled with terrific new opportunities to structure time on a progressive level, we visit with some of our wonderful community youth who came out to the Nevada Partners Back to School Fair. Many students received wonderful school supplies and also a FREE dental screening compliments of Silver State Smiles and Silverstateclub.com.

We feel the excitement in the air for the upcoming Las Vegas City of Lights SoulFest that will take place September 20 and 21 at the Clark County Government Amphitheater. Some of the best in music will highlight the event, including violinist Damien Escobar, Kindred the Family Soul, Howard Hewett, Marion Meadows, Lalah Hathaway, Musiq Soulchild and many more.

Our special images of the sold-out stage play, “Miss Hattie’s Porch,” will delight you — as will an intimate photo essay capturing this year’s Valley View Reunion.

How are you LIVING? This special section reminds us that everything within your home sends a message. For example: cozy, colorful pillows that display heartfelt words can help make a house a home. We also share a timeless recipe for collard greens — a culinary touchpoint for the resilience to be found throughout Black history.

We hope that our sistas will take part in the 8th Annual Caravan for Mammogram. Please call (702) 615-8216 today to receive your signup form for this free event. Thank you to Steinberg Diagnostics for offering FREE breast exams this year for those ladies who desire to have one.

Many thanks to our excellent contributing writers, creative executive publishing team, and wonderful advertisers who give you a voice each month with Las Vegas Black Image.

And of course, our deepest thanks go to all of you: our loyal readers and supporters of Las Vegas Black Image. We’d love to hear from you — send story ideas to cdalasvegas@gmail.com.
