KCEP-FM, Power 88.1 is set to host the Second Annual Power 88 Super Soul Gospel Fest on Oct. 2 at the Henderson Pavilion, 200 S. Green Valley Parkway. “The anticipation is so high for this year’s event, because last year was so successful,” said Craig Knight, the nonprofit station’s general manager. “We pushed the date back a month in order to avoid the hot weather.” The event promises to showcase the best of local gospel music from community churches. “There is so much talent in Las Vegas,” said Knight, “and a lot of the talented choirs are coming back to perform, from such churches as Victory Missionary Baptist Church, Mountain Top Ministries, the Men of Valor from 2nd Baptist Church and many more.” A host of vendors will add to the festivities, bringing together members of churches from all over the city. “It is our vision to bring together a variety of churches and their members to celebrate each other and Christ,” Knight said. “We want to bring all of the choirs, praise teams and dancers together in fellowship for one God that we serve.” Last year’s event drew 2,000 people, and Knight said hopes are high that the festival will soon need to expand. “Within three to five years — and hopefully next year — we will make the event a two-day extravaganza for gospel music,” he said. “I foresee people coming from out of town for this event, which has international appeal.” For more information, call (702) 648-0104.
