A giant of American history, Congressman John Lewis of Georgia, recently visited Las Vegas for a reception held at Rep. Steven Horsford’s reelection headquarters. Revered worldwide for his work in the civil rights movement alongside Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Lewis was a speaker at the March on Washington and was among the peaceful demonstrators beaten on the Edmund Pettus Bridge by Alabama State Troopers on March 7, 1965 — a tragic but transformative day forever known as Bloody Sunday. Today, he is one of the nation’s most respected and authoritative voices on human rights. Las Vegas Black Image Magazine was on hand to capture some special moments during Lewis’ historic visit to our city.
