HEALTHIER YOU: Good Health: It’s your move

We all know that eating more vegetables and engaging in moderate exercise every day will help us stay healthy. As we recognize National Women’s Health and Fitness Month in September, we should remind ourselves of Michelle Obama’s simple yet powerful clarion call: “Let’s Move!”

With the many stresses of day-to-day life, it’s important to relax the mind and move the body. Many people are unaware that when your body is in motion, your mind can relax from mental challenges that might contribute to hypertension and increased heart rate.

Taking time out of your busy day for yourself is very important. Here are some tips to help you stay in the driver’s seat for better health:

  • Try a new sport. Mixing up your workout can be good for your body
  • Get your thyroid checked. A sluggish or hyperactive thyroid can wreak havoc on your concentration, mood, and weight — and go undetected for years
  • You may not be Superwoman (well, not every day), but you can eat superfoods like green vegetables and fruits — they can help you lose weight, fight colds, boost heart health, and live longer
  • Take a nap — always good for your heart, mind and weight
  • Ask a friend to work out with you
  • Give yourself a healthy beauty treatment
  • Stay hydrated
  • Rub out stress with a massage
  • Add back-strengthening moves to your workout

Remember: the choices you make can make a positive difference in your health. That’s why it is important to stay educated on both new and time-tested ways to optimize the well-being of your mind, body, and soul.
