Full Ride…
With diplomas in one hand and full-ride scholarships in the other, four young men graduating from Bishop Gorman High School in 2010 are headed to some of the nation’s most respected universities. On a football scholarship, Las Vegas native Alex Turner will be a student at Stanford University next fall. “I am very happy to receive this athletic scholarship,” said Turner, “and my parents are even happier.” His teammate, Xavier Grimble, will attend the University of Southern California. A third football teammate, Chicago native Geoff Gibson, will also pursue higher education in the Pac-10 Conference — at UC Berkeley. On a basketball scholarship, Anson Winder will attend Brigham Young University in the fall. Although athletic skill helped these young men receive scholarships, all of them stressed that demonstrating academic prowess was also key to securing an educational future.
