Dr. Kenneth Westfield

Dr. Kenneth Westfield, owner of Westfield Eye Care, has been traveling to Haiti for 15 years as medical director for Friends of the Children of Lascahobas — a nonprofit organization that built and operates a hospital in one of the poorest regions of that impoverished nation. On a recent visit, his first since the devastating January earthquake, he witnessed black families that are growing closer in the face of adversity. “The family unit in Haiti is probably a little more intact than in black communities in the United States,” he said. “The fathers are participating in raising their children when the resources are available.”
