Summer is here, and many of us are so busy with day-to-day responsibilities that we are overlooking personal health.
Las Vegas is one of the hottest cities in the country, with temperatures regularly reaching well into triple digits in the summer months. But that does not mean we can ignore the need to exercise and stay physically active.
If your job requires you to sit at a desk for hours at a time, make sure to take the time to stand up and take short walks around your building or work area. For those who have signed on for an exercise program or joined a health club, be sure to first arrange for a doctor to complete a physical check-up before challenging your body to get in shape.
I suggest low-impact exercises — such as Quick Fit Aerobics — which are easy on the joints and organs, yet meet the goal of building and sustaining good health. Some may feel that daily exercise provides the liberty of cheating on healthy eating, but engaging in both makes for a good “marriage” for long life.
Water is our juice from the heavens; to be healthier and more productive, we must incorporate more water intake into our lifestyles — especially during summer. Staying hydrated while working out — or simply going through your day — is a must.
Eating more fruits and vegetables daily might sound cliché, but it will keep you strong and nourish your body. Start a walking group with your friends or family; it will serve as a positive mental and physical exercise, releasing endorphins that will keep you happy and stress-free.
Moderate daily exercise, along with eating healthy foods, will lower blood pressure and contribute to you getting a good night’s sleep. Let’s make a commitment to keep it moving.
