It was a distinct honor to be invited to the InNEVation Burkes Center in Las Vegas to witness the first coming-together of the Nevada Chapter of “Black Girls Code,” sponsored by Bally Technologies. Organizers Lauren Burke Bennett and Lisa Mosley spearhead this national nonprofit organization, which is part of the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) national initiative to expose girls from underrepresented communities to STEM-related industries. The summer launch of Black Girls Code was tremendously successful, with girls from 7-17 years of age joining together to create a website in a day. Said Bennett: “We hope to have the Black Girls Code continue as an after-school program within the next few months, and are extremely excited about helping to open up the world of technology to those who are under served.” For additional information, contact Lauren Burke Bennett at (702) 582-9306 or visit www.Blackgirlscode.com.
