Be yourself

Why feeling good about life is one of the seven secrets of stress-free living.

Do you ever get tired just thinking about all the things you have to do? Have you ever felt like you want to resign from the human race for one week and just do what you want to do? Do you ever feel like your life is out of control?

You can’t eliminate stress, you can only neutralize it. It’s not so much how much stress you carry, but how you carry it that counts.

Today I want us to look at the life of Christ and discover a secret of stress-free living that is contained in the Bible. We’re going to look at a statement of Christ as a solution to overcoming stress.

John 8 | KNOW WHO YOU ARE: The Principle of Identification

Verse 12: “When Jesus spoke again to the people He said, ‘I am the Light of the world. Whoever follows Me will never walk in darkness but will have the light of life.’” Jesus said, “I am the light of the world.” He was defining Himself, saying, “I know who I am.” Over 18 times in the Bible, Jesus says, “I am…” and then gives a description. He says, “I am the door. … the bread of life … the way … the truth … the resurrection … the life.” Over and over, He defines Himself. He was saying, “I know who I am.” There’s no doubt about it. As a result, He was not under pressure.

Verse 18: “I am the one who testifies of Myself.” He was saying, “I don’t need anybody else to tell me who I am. I know who I am.”

One of the major causes of stress comes from trying to be somebody that you’re not. You put on a mask. You pretend that you’re somebody else. You hide it from others. And there’s always the fear that somebody’s going to find out what you’re really like. There’s always the fear that you might not be able to keep up the facade, so what happens? Stress. If you haven’t settled this issue, it’s like trying to live a double life.

Service comes from self-esteem. Until you feel good about yourself, you won’t feel like helping anybody else because you’re insecure and you think, “I don’t want them feeling good if I don’t feel good.”

Be yourself and live a stress free life.
