Southwest Gas has been providing affordable, versatile, clean, and safe natural gas to our communities for more than 80 years. It has helped Nevadans build lives and memories — keeping us warm, fueling family barbecues — for generations. Knowing that natural gas is intricately woven into our customers’ daily lives, Southwest Gas is dedicated to providing safe and reliable service.

Similarly, the Company is also dedicated to developing its existing workforce, while nurturing tomorrow’s leaders with internships and training. As an equal opportunity employer of 2,200 workers in Arizona, California, and Nevada, Southwest Gas is home to sustainable career opportunities and has a culture grounded in generosity, engagement, and integrity.

Jordan Ariche, who holds a degree in computer engineering from UNLV, began his professional career as an intern at Southwest Gas.

“While attending UNLV, I was an active member of the National Society of Black Engineers, and our instructor made sure we took advantage of every opportunity that came our way,” he recalled. “So, I participated in this mock interview that was conducted on campus by top local companies. They gave really good feedback on our interviewing skills, and Southwest Gas was one of those companies that participated.”

He continued: “That’s where I met Southwest Gas representative Sharon Braddy-McKoy, who is an amazing lady. She gave me her card, and I kept in touch with her for over a year-and-a-half.

One day, she contacted me and said that Southwest Gas had an internship position open in computer engineering and asked if I’d like to apply. I interviewed for the position and was delighted to receive the internship.”

Jordan, who went on to earn his MBA from the University of Florida, now serves as a leading Southwest Gas computer engineering employee.

“Starting as an intern at Southwest Gas definitely gave me an advantage in securing my current position as a computer engineer,” said Jordan. “I had the opportunity to learn the culture of the company and become a valuable member of the Southwest Gas team.

When I was in school, I loved and excelled at mathematics – I love finding solutions to challenges. That’s why I’m thoroughly enjoying my current position at Southwest Gas – I’m problem solving and thinking critically every day.”

Jordan’s team develops and refines software that helps Southwest Gas handle any challenge that may come its way.

“It’s really rewarding to come up with a plan, build and execute software exactly how you planned for it to work, and fulfill the company’s needs,” said Jordan.

Southwest Gas, he says, always goes the extra mile. “It’s amazing and very positive to work at Southwest Gas,” he said. “Most of my coworkers have been here for over 10 years. The people are easy to work with and the culture encourages development for all employees – this is a place where you stay.”
