Hundreds of people gathered recently at the home of Dr. Kenneth C. Westfield for a fundraiser benefiting The Gift of Sight — the non-profit organization he founded to help people around the world who lack access to eye care.
For the last 18 years, The Gift of Sight has volunteered supplies, knowledge, and surgical skills on numerous missions to countries like Haiti, Vietnam, the Philippines, Guatemala and Kenya. The work is important, and The Gift of Sight’s work in Lascahobas, Haiti is a prime example: its medical team has screened more than 12,000 patients, dispensed over 6,500 pairs of eyeglasses, and performed hundreds of cataract extractions. This care has transformed lives in an area where a single doctor used to make one annual visit to an area that is home to 50,000 people.
At the fundraiser, many of Las Vegas’ most prominent residents participated in the fundraising activities that included live and silent auctions. The Las Vegas Academy of Arts jazz ensemble entertained the crowd that mixed and mingled while enjoying a fine art exhibit.
The Gift of Sight fundraiser proved to be successful, and Dr. Westfield plans to make it an annual affair. For more information, visit supportgiftofsight.org.
