There is so much more to Las Vegas than 24-hour parties and nonstop entertainment. The city is home to an array of people who embrace unity in the community, and have a passion to see everyone in Las Vegas succeed.
This spirit was captured at the NAACP Freedom Fund Banquet, which brought the community together to honor Mario Berlanga of Mario’s Westside Market; KCEP General Manager Craig Knight, recipient of a Lifetime Achievement Award; and Valencia Burch, who received a Small Business Award. The unity, sense of community, and determined commitment represented by the NAACP Freedom Fund reflects the values of President Roxann Bauman McCoy, who is paving the pathway forward.
Zandra Polard of Beauty Mark held a Domestic Violence Awareness Month event with Safe Nest at Town Square, which allowed people to better understand the importance of stopping the cycle of domestic violence. And The Center of Las Vegas held its 2017 Honorarium “Unplugged” at Palms Hotel and Casino, which displayed the impact of a community coming together for youth and adults. Executive Director Andre Wade is working diligently to provide programs for the betterment of the community, proving once again that Las Vegas is full of culture, beauty, awareness, and love — a city that will always stand strong together.
