Growing with the Community
Vegas Roots Community Garden has always strived to be a catalyst for positive change in our community — and with such a wide array of amazing programs, we are doing just that!
Located at 715 North Tonopah, the garden has always encouraged Vegas residents to come down and pick some of our freshly grown veggies. We also have a children’s garden club called Lil’ Roots — which focuses on starting healthy habits early through gardening and healthy eating. We also have plots that can be rented out to grow your own food. We teach you and provide the tools, seeds, and irrigated plot.
If growing your own doesn’t appeal to you, you can try our Veggie Bag program. Each week you pick up a bag of fresh fruits and veggies along with simple recipes for each. If starting a healthy eating regimen has been on your radar, but you didn’t know where to start, this is a great program for you. Sign up at VegasRoots.org.
Rolling out at the end of May will be our mobile farmers market — called the Veggie Buck Truck. This is the only “Garden on Wheels” in Vegas, and will be fully stocked with fresh produce and other locally sourced goodies. The Veggie Buck truck will be in Henderson and in the areas of 89106 and 89030, stopping at community centers, public parks, and government buildings. Check our Facebook page for the specific locations and our rollout date.
For more information about our programs visit www.vegasroots.org or call (702) 636-4152. To fully serve all members of our community, we also accept SNAP and Senior Nutrition Coupons that help offset the cost of eating healthy!
