Holiday Cheer(s)

Las Vegas Black Image publishers Charles Tureaud and Kimberly Bailey Tureaud

When the holidays roll around each year, we can’t help but to hear the echoes of “This Christmas,” the yuletide classic popularized by the legendary Donny Hathaway: “Hang all the mistletoe / I’m gonna get to know you better …”

As we enter our 14th year of publishing, we are so grateful for the many opportunities to know you — the loyal readers of Las Vegas Black Image — better. And because the growth of this magazine has tracked closely with the rise of global superstar Beyoncé, she is on this month’s cover to celebrate a standard of Black excellence and achievement that she will always represent.

That brand of excellence is found everywhere in this issue, brought to you by our matchless executive publishing team and contributing writers:

• Catching up with the Five Star Linemen organization, helping young men and women fulfil their educational and career goals with an emphasis on building character.

• Celebrating the veterans who have served our country and continue to keep us safe. Thank you for your service.

• Capturing community members’ thoughts on the behavior of our Clark County School District’s Board of Trustees.

• Sharing highlights from Doolittle Active Adult Senior Center’s “Celebrating our Seniors and Veterans” event sponsored by Intermountain Healthcare, John Mull’s Meats and Road Kill Grill, and Comprehensive Cancer Center.

• Commemorating the Las Vegas Urban Chamber of Commerce Green Tie Awards, honoring entrepreneurs and other progressive Nevadans.

• Coming home with “Home at Last,” representatives, who conducted a wonderful presentation at the West Prep Academy’s parent council meeting and shared their homeowner down payment assistance opportunities.

As the year comes to a close, we have to give a special shout out to honor Intermountain Healthcare’s extraordinary support for the Las Vegas Black Image Health Initiative — which has intensified over the last quarter and continues to grow thanks to their diverse groups of doctors and professional staff.

We are the gift that keeps giving to each other, so let’s stay healthy as we enter 2022. Merry Christmas, Happy Kwanzaa and have a wonderful new year!
