Stepping into 2022 with hope and gratitude
Happy New Now! Our hope is that each one of you enjoyed wonderful holiday celebrations and stepped into 2022 determined to be a force for good in the world.
We are beginning the year with a spirit of gratitude, and are thankful to the Las Vegas-Clark County Library District for the opportunity to speak with Abdur-Rahman Muhammad — a fount of knowledge about the assassination of an American hero, who took us inside the making of the Netflix documentary, “Who Killed Malcolm X?”
The great Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. is also honored in this edition, with some of his most profound words featured in commemoration of his birthday and the national holiday named for the legendary civil rights leader.
Want to see some inspiring Black images? Look no further than our photo essay capturing a grand celebration of the new Historic West Las Vegas Legacy Park — which honors the many icons from the Las Vegas black community who paved the way for progress.
It is with heartfelt sorrow that we recently said goodbye to United States Senator Harry Reid, who gave love and opportunity to our entire community. He will be missed but never forgotten.
In this month’s edition of Community Speaks, we ask readers to offer their ideas for combating violence in our schools — and returning the focus where it belongs: on education.
Of course, we have to give our deepest thanks to all of the contributing writers who offer the best information, education, and inspiration to our loyal readers. If you have suggestions for stories and other content, please don’t hesitate to contact us with your ideas.
Remember, Las Vegas Black Image can be picked up for free in all Albertsons grocery stores, Las Vegas-Clark County Libraries, select businesses, and more. For advertising information call Charles Tureaud at (702) 743-9613 or email us at cdalasvegas@gmail.com.
We appreciate and thank you for all your support!
