The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) Foundation, in collaboration with LVMPD and UNLV Early Outreach Program, recently hosted the highly anticipated 2nd Annual Soccer Extravaganza. This exciting event brought together students in grades 3-5 for a day of spirited soccer competition at Kragin Hinson Park. Organized by LVMPD Area Commands, the soccer games received enthusiastic participation from over 150 talented young athletes.

Walt Walters and Earl White, dedicated board members of the LVMPD Foundation, were active in organizing this community sporting event to promote good sportsmanship, athletic skill, accountability, discipline, teamwork, and goal setting among the participating youth.

“These events play a vital role in building trust between law enforcement and our young community members,” said White. “By humanizing the badge for children, we encourage them to feel comfortable approaching and engaging with the police. It’s not just about interacting during crises; it’s about creating positive moments where children see firsthand that the police genuinely care and are there to support their success. We trust these initiatives will have a lasting positive impact on the lives of children and the police force.”

The LVMPD Foundation’s sports initiatives serve as a platform for LVMPD officers to establish strong and positive relationships and participants, particularly those residing in low socioeconomic areas of the valley. Through these athletic programs, the Foundation aims to foster inclusiveness and instill good citizenship values in the youth.

On October 21, the Safe Neighborhood 3:3 Basketball Tournament will be held at UNLV. Following the success of the Soccer Extravaganza, this tournament promises to bring together more youth and law enforcement officers in a fun and engaging sporting event.
