LETTER FROM THE PUBLISHERS: ONE HOT READ

One hot read

This July edition of Las Vegas Black Image mirrors what most of you are feeling right now in our city: the summer heat!

Charles Tureaud and Kimberly Bailey Tureaud

Our cover is graced by the inimitable Sharon Braddy-McKoy, who is retiring after 25 high-impact years at Southwest Gas Corporation — where she made history as the first black woman to reach director level at the company, has spent decades creating job opportunities for the community, and has provided executive leadership on principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion.

We also welcome two new contributors to our pages this month: reparations advocate Dr. Darryl Fortson and real estate professional Kimberly Smith, who share incisive opinions and expert advice on topics of great interest to African-Americans in Nevada and beyond.

Elsewhere in this issue, we ask readers in Community Speaks to share how they know when a personal limit has been reached. And see what we saw when Las Vegas welcomed the Stellar Awards to the Orleans Arena — where the biggest names in gospel music gathered to celebrate excellence and honor their own.

We’ll close this note as we always do: with a huge thank-you to the loyal readers and advertisers who support us both in print and online at LasVegasBlackImage.com. It is because of you that this monthly showcase of Black excellence is possible!

Rise,
Charles Tureaud & Kimberly Bailey Tureaud
