In my lifetime, I have witnessed substantial progress towards the goal of “… a more perfect union.” Progress that has occurred in my time on Earth includes the following:
● Integration of professional sports
● Desegregation of the armed services
● Brown v. Board of Education
● March on Washington
● Passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and Voting Rights Act of 1965
● Minorities and women serving high positions in the private sector or winning seats to local, county, statewide offices, and the SCOTUS
● Black man elected to the office of POTUS
● Members of the LGBTQ community gaining full citizenship rights
While these examples of progress are measurable, they have never been capable of eradicating the whys of hate, fear, and a bushel basket full of -isms and phobias that are placing progress in harm’s way, including the following:
● The Party of Lincoln is no longer recognizable, due to their propagandizing gross, woke, and grievance misrepresentations
● Politicians are supporting book-banning, like back in 1930s Europe
● Allowing foreigners to take advantage of our graduate schools often at the expense of American citizens is foolhardy in terms of America being able to maintain its leadership status in the world in the coming decades
● Treating the personal health issue of drug addiction as a crime has resulted in America locking up a greater percentage of its population than any nation in the industrialized world — not to mention the labor shortage and destruction of the family unit that it causes.
● Oppressive actions at our southern border totally betray the words placed on the base of the Statue of Liberty in 1903.
● SCOTUS is actively reversing settled law dating back to the 1960s.
● Hate crimes are at epidemic levels.
● An atmosphere wherein promiscuous participation in overt acts of oppression and targeted mass violence are always flippantly dismissed with insincere expressions of thoughts and prayers.
Apathetic citizens, it’s your behinds — you should know why progress is in harm’s way in America.
