Las Vegas Black Image is once again hosting the Las Vegas Caravan for Mammogram, a free event taking place October 26 in the Valley Hospital parking lot at 700 Shadow Lane. The festivities begin at 8 a.m.
Las Vegas Caravan for Mammogram was founded (and is still coordinated by) publisher Kimberly Bailey Tureaud, a longtime advocate for healthy living. She promises another wonderful event for the whole family. “Every study on breast cancer shows that Black women die disproportionately from the deadly disease,” says Bailey Tureaud. “This is why Las Vegas Black Image Magazine wants to galvanize women each year — to remind us to take care of our breast health and be proactive with preventive measures.”
More than 200 Black women come together each October for the Las Vegas Caravan for Mammogram, gathering to decorate their cars in pink for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The ladies drive their cars and caravan down the Las Vegas Strip in parade formation to remind all women to take care of their breast health with annual mammograms and medical checkups.
“The Caravan for Mammogram is a community awareness activity to promote good breast health for women and men as well,” says Bailey Tureaud. “There will not be mammograms given at the event, but it will be a fun time for community members to come together to advocate for good breast health — and to show support to some of the ladies who are currently dealing with breast cancer. It is a wonderful time with so much positive energy. We will decorate our cars while listening to wonderful sounds provided by Kam the DJ. There will also be doctors and other healthcare professionals there to share information.”
The Caravan for Mammogram is a free event, and all participating ladies will receive a big pink bag full of decorations to decorate their cars. There will also be a wonderful free lunch at the end of the caravan, where participants and community members can dine together and network.
