KNIGHT MOVES | Happy Black History Month!

It’s February — the shortest month of the year, packing a punch with a mix of holidays, special events, and important causes. It’s a month that invites reflection on love, history, and even self-awareness. A month that shares the seasons of Aquarius and Pisces!

Black History Month, observed throughout February, is a vital time for honoring the achievements, contributions, and struggles of African Americans in shaping the nation’s history. This month-long observance sparks important conversations about equality, civil rights, and the ongoing quest for social justice.

On February 1, KCEP Power 88.1 FM hosts the City of Henderson’s Gospel Fest 2025, at the Water Street Plaza Amphitheater in downtown Henderson from noon to 4 p.m. — featuring great gospel music by headliners and local gospel talent, food trucks, vendors, and more! This Saturday event is free and fun for the entire family. Information is available at www.ExclusiveCreativeEventsDesign.Info.

February 9 is Super Bowl LIX, taking place at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans for a record eighth time. After an exhilarating playoff season filled with shocking upsets, it all comes down to the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs. Will the Chiefs secure a historic third straight title? Or will Eagles star Saquon Barkley spoil their quest by celebrating his 28th birthday with a victory? As always, the Super Bowl promises more than just football — with unforgettable commercials and show-stopping halftime performances. This year’s headliner is Kendrick Lamar (“Not Like Us”), so get ready for a spectacle.

February 14 is Valentine’s Day — and how convenient for it to land on a Friday and kick off a weekend. Valentine’s Day offers an opportunity to celebrate love in all its forms — romantic, familial, and platonic. But love isn’t the only thing that day has to offer: February 14-16 will be the 74th NBA All-Star Weekend, taking place in San Francisco at the Chase Center and hosted by the Golden State Warriors. For the first time, the game will feature a mini-tournament format with three games and four teams of eight players each. This should be interesting!

February also brings the Lunar New Year, celebrated by millions around the world. In 2025, the Chinese New Year falls on February 17, ushering in the Year of the Wood Snake. This cultural celebration is marked by fireworks, family gatherings, and traditional foods, symbolizing renewal and prosperity.

On the awareness front, February serves as the month for many important causes:

  • National Heart Month, a time to focus on cardiovascular health and prevention.
  • American Heart Month, raising awareness about heart disease and stroke prevention.
  • February is also dedicated to raising awareness about rare diseases, cancer prevention, and mental health.
  • National Eating Disorders Awareness Week falls on the last week of the month.

Despite being the shortest month, February is far from dull. It serves as a reminder to reflect on love, honor diverse histories, and advocate for change — setting the stage for a thoughtful and meaningful year ahead.

As we celebrate the holidays and sports seasons, let’s remember to engage responsibly. And until the next edition of Knight Moves, educate yourself and share knowledge with others!

God Bless!
