One of the foundational principles of Las Vegas Black Image is the idea that Black history, achievement, and promise should be recognized, showcased, and celebrated every day — because it is American history.
People are at the center of this endeavor. And this special edition, which arrives in time for Black History Month, speaks their names: Las Vegas community icons who are pouring into our lives today, and those who have passed but whose legacies continue to inspire.
Elsewhere in this issue:
- We go inside extension of the extraordinary Janet Jackson: Las Vegas residency at Resorts World Theatre
- Ace photographer Clark McCarrell Jr. captures the galvanizing glory of the annual, historic Martin Luther King Jr. Parade
- In Community Speaks, readers reflect on the impact of Las Vegas’ African-American icons
- Join Mayor Shelley Berkley and Councilwoman Shondra Summers Armstrong, hosts of the African American Trailblazer Service Awards
- Scenes from The Isley Brothers’ recent performance at the Pearl Theater inside the Palm Hotel & Casino.
Our gratitude is with the Las Vegas Black Image executive publishing team and contributing writers, who keep us informed, motivated, and educated. And none of it is possible without the advertisers dedicated to giving our community a voice.
Rise,
Charles Tureaud & Kimberly Bailey Tureaud
