My Answers To 3 Election Questions

Are America and you better off than four years ago?

The answer to both is “hell no!”

Does my vote count?

Voting — or not — changes things. Let me give you seven reasons why voting counts:

  • Lives were lost in the courageous fight for minority rights to vote.
  • Your silence gives consent.
  • If you don’t use your right to vote, you will lose your right to vote.
  • So you can complain with integrity.
  • Apathy gets you the government we have today.
  • Because the rest of us are depending on you.
  • Democracy must be more than 2 wolves and a sheep voting on what to have for dinner.

“Vote for me. What do you have to lose?”

The present occupant of the White House asked this question in 2016. Since that time, it has been answered in numerous ways. I’ll list only A through H — since that’s all the space I have for this column:

  • Peaceful protest now subjects citizens to clandestine arrests.
  • “Better angels” beliefs in America have been eradicated and replaced by warlocks and witches.
  • Cultural respect has been purposefully hijacked and replaced with the active promotion of cultural wars.
  • Division along America’s racial fault line is being pursued with a vengeance.
  • The economic wellbeing of upwards of 30 million American has suffered, in too many instances, irreparable harm.
  • Fidelity to oaths of office has become an absolute joke, as evidenced by the number of Trump appointees convicted of crimes.
  • God’s name has been used in vain, in two very specific ways: at St. John’s church and Trump saying Democrats didn’t say his name during the pledge of allegiance at the DNC national convention.
  • A health crisis that, by the time you read this column, will be measured in a death total that exceeds 200,000 American lives.

In short, what we had to lose was America’s heart and soul. As a result, we are weaker, sicker, and poorer as a nation.
