The boys are back — in Vegas!
Boyz II Men — Shawn Stockman, Nathan Morris and Wanya Morris — are burnishing the legacy of their legendary group, with a successful residency at the Terry Fator Theatre at The Mirage.
They may have aged a little, but the years have been kind to their strong, smooth voices. Boyz II Men’s impact on popular culture looms so large that the show is less of a concert — and more of a journey through the influences and career of one of the most successful acts in pop music history.
In honor of their years on the monumental record label, the group performed a tribute to Motown, then showcased unparalleled a cappella harmony with selections from their early years. And the moves? They didn’t miss a step, impressing the crowd with classic dancing and fancy footwork.
Throughout the performance, the group showed great love for their loyal fans, constantly voicing gratitude and giving out countless roses and hugs. The dynamic trio also kept the audience laughing, with personal anecdotes and their brotherly chemistry. Adding to the musical delights, Brian McKnight joined Boyz II Men for a special performance of his song “Back at One,” and some season-appropriate songs from their 1993 “Christmas Interpretations” album.
The timelessness of Boyz II Men’s music is reflected in the diversity of their audience. The theater was filled with people — ranging from teenagers to adults and seniors — showing equal enthusiasm. The cross-generational fervor reached a crescendo when virtually the entire crowd sang and danced along to the night’s highlight: a showstopping performance of “Motownphilly.”
With that much love exchanged between Boyz II Men and their fans, it is no surprise that the show has been extended through summer 2014.
