Drink to this
BY DR. ANNETTE MAYES
It is always “Hot in July.” But if you are pregnant it is essential that your body is properly hydrated with at least eight glasses of water a day. How you treat your body can have a tremendous effect on a fetus.
Here are some hot tips for staying hydrated for yourself and your unborn child:
- Drink at least 8 glasses of water or hydrating fluid a day.
- It is good to stay hydrated because water delivers the nutrients to the fetus.
- Water facilitates the delivery of nutrients into the cells, and it transports vitamins, minerals and hormones to the blood cells for the fetus.
- The rich blood cells reach the placenta and ultimately your baby all with the help of H2O.
- Water helps eliminate waste and flush the kidneys.
- Water helps keep the body cool while pregnant.
- Water helps combat fatigue when pregnant.
- Drinking water reduces swelling and controls water retention.
So this summer, remember to be good to yourself — and have a drink of water on me.
