Happy Spring: April showers bringing us those May flowers

It’s been a very rough time for the world, and we will all bloom if we keep praying and working toward positive outcomes and peace.

Las Vegas Black Image celebrates the Honorable Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson — for her relentless perseverance and grace in a Senate confirmation process charged with tedious, grueling, and contentious questions posed by Republicans trying to derail her well-deserved path to the highest court in the land. She has already won the seat in the hearts and minds of the nation, and will make her-story as the first Black woman confirmed to the Supreme Court.

In this month’s edition of Community Speaks, readers express their wishes for what will be developed in place of the West Las Vegas Library Theatre that has been purchased by the City of Las Vegas. Many are shocked that the West Las library and theater have been sold, but City officials indicate that there will be a bigger and better development in its place. We will be watching!

Elsewhere in this issue: we congratulate the Bolden Little League, coached by Mario of Mario’s Market, for receiving financial support from Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield to replace uniforms and equipment recently destroyed by vandals; Dr. Annette Mayes gives an update on the unique challenges facing pregnant women of color; excitement is building for the first annual A Day in the Park Sickle Cell Disease Education and Awareness event set for April 2; and we thank all the community members who can be seen in our Photo of the Month feature capturing the beauty of Black Las Vegas.

This issue offers so much wonderful information and imagery that represents excellence at its best. Much love!
