As an advocate for change, one of LIBERTY Dental Plan’s goals is to increase access to care and address disparities that result in poor oral health outcomes for the African American community. According to an article by the CDC, African-American children are nearly twice as likely to have untreated cavities than children from other communities. African-American children are also nearly twice as likely to not utilize preventive treatments such as dental sealants and fluoride varnishes. These disparities continue to grow as they reach adulthood.
In an effort to improve the issues impacting the African-American community, LIBERTY Dental Plan has developed and supported purposeful partnerships with African American led community-based organizations such as the NAACP, Bethel AME Church, Las Vegas Leading Ladies, Black Wall Street, and the Adult Sickle Cell Disease Foundation of Nevada. We have also created our Community Smiles Program, so that our members can search for free or reduced-cost resources like housing, transportation, and food in their zip code. LIBERTY Dental Plan supports our members by improving access to care and resources that enable the African-American community to prioritize oral health needs.
