We celebrate Black history all year — but February always brings new clarity to the importance of telling the truth about the Black experience and recognizing the extraordinary achievements of African-Americans.

This issue of Las Vegas Black Image celebrates you and all of the good-good that you bring to the community. And inside, it is full of amazing features to keep you thinking, reminiscing, and celebrating all month long:

● We honor iconic photographer LaMonte McLemore (also a founding member of 5th Dimension) — one of the artists behind Jet magazine’s famed“Beauty of The Week”

● The 2024 MLK Parade didn’t disappoint — with its fabulous floats, drill teams, and gathering of people remembering Dr. Martin Luther King’s dream. This issue showcases wonderful images of the day captured by photographer Clark McCarrell Jr.

● There have two new features in this issue: “Knight Moves,” by KCEP 88.1 FM General Manager Craig Knight; and“Black Excellence,” which highlights Black corporate executives

● We remember two giants of our community who recently passed away: songstress Marlena Shaw and spiritual influencer Henry “Pops” Regan

● Accolades keep pouring in for Las Vegas-Clark County Library Executive Director Kelvin Watson, who was recently honored by the City of Las Vegas

Our advertisers are the heartbeat of Las Vegas Black Image, and we thank them for their belief in giving Las Vegas’ Black community a voice. And none of it would be possible without our outstanding contributing writers and editorial staff.

And before signing off, we hope to see you all at the Las Vegas Taste & Sounds of Soul/Black Image Honors, February 23 at the Flamingo Library from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Rise,
