KNIGHT MOVES | Things you autumn know

It’s October now — delivering both the fourth quarter and what most of us consider the real beginning of fall. Interestingly, October is commonly associated with spring in parts of the southern hemisphere, and autumn in parts of the northern hemisphere.

October is an exciting month for sports, and both the NFL and college football are already in full swing. Go Raiders and Rebels! And as a historic WNBA nears an end, our very own Las Vegas Aces are pursuing a threepeat! We can’t forget a huge congratulations to Aj’a Wilson, who was recently crowned MVP of the league for a third time — a unanimous choice after becoming the first WNBA player to score 1,000 points in a single season. Meanwhile, the Golden Knights are gearing up for another exciting season of NHL hockey.

This month also recognizes the following commemorations:

• October 7: KCEP POWER 88.1 FM’s 52nd Anniversary

• October 14: Indigenous People’s Day and Columbus Day

• October 25: Nevada Day

• October 31: Halloween

October is home to many awareness months, but one of the most widely recognized is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Founded in 1985 by the American Cancer Society, Breast Cancer Awareness Month and pink ribbons are now synonymous with the month of October. Early detection is critical, so learn how to identify breast cancer and be proactive about your breast health. Learn more at nationalbreastcancer.org.

God bless!
