The fifth most important election in American history

With the exception of the elections of 1860, 1864, 1876, and 1940, the November 2024 election will be the most important in our nation’s history. 

Lincoln’s elections just before and near the end of the Civil War are the most important since he was able to preserve the union. The election of Hayes in 1876 ushered in the era of Jim Crow, 11 years after the ending of the Civil War. Forced segregation became the law of the land, remnants which are still in evidence today, although laws ended segregation back in 1964/65. While not known at the time, Roosevelt’s will and resolve were the reasons America was able, with allies, to win a world war on two fronts in less than four years. 

There are four primary reasons I rate the 2024 presidential election with the four earlier ones in terms of importance. 

1. The harm that extreme division is causing in our nation. 

2. Overt attempts to oppress people based on race, lifestyle, and/or religion are everywhere. 

3. Our nation’s leadership role in the world is in jeopardy at a time of crisis 

4. The possibility of America electing its first woman president. 

The reasoning behind my four reasons: 

• President Lincoln advised us that “A house divided against itself cannot stand!” 

• SCOTUS rulings of the past decade or so.

• MAGA’s criticizing our nation’s principled involvement in the Middle East and Ukraine during a time of crisis is un-American. 

• A woman has a better than an even chance to return America to a state of sanity, reason, and joy in being an American again. 

Based on the foregoing, there remain two questions to answer: 

1. Of the candidates vying to be POTUS, who is better qualified to serve in the position based on the importance of the election? 

2. The answer to the first question should be based on the fact who values more what has made America a great multi-racial democracy. 

Now you know why this election is so important and the reasons why your butts need to GO VOTE!
