Her mission: putting our young people on an upward trajectory

Angela Scurry, a Las Vegas leader raised in Chicago’s northwest suburbs, is widely-known as a committed advocate for community development and individual empowerment through skill enhancement. Scurry was named to the Nevada Human Resources Commission in 2021, and has most recently been appointed by the City of Las Vegas as a new board member for Strong Start Academy. 

“I am passionate about education and believe every child deserves access to high-quality learning opportunities—regardless of their background,” said Scurry. “My desire to join the Strong Start Academy school board arose from my commitment to the educational experience for our students. The goal is to give all students a path for a successful life.” 

Scurry has a bachelor’s degree in human services management and an MBA. In 2022, she launched her Upward to Success human resources consulting service, which emphasizes workforce development and employee engagement.
