Las Vegas Black Image would like to begin Women’s History Month with a note of deep respect and gratitude for all of the women, through the ages, who have paved the way for humanity to achieve so many great things.

And one of the most rewarding elements of women’s history? It’s still being made. Just ask newly-elected Councilwoman Shondra Summers-Armstrong, who joined us for a special one-on-one conversation about her strong commitment to the people and high ambitions for Ward 5.

We also pay tribute to the eleven honorees of the recently-held Las Vegas Black Image Magazine Honors — an extraordinary collection of leaders, thinkers, and givers who embody excellence, give inspiration, and make a positive difference in the lives of others in Las Vegas and throughout Nevada. Extra special thanks to ace photographer Clark McCarrell Jr. for the incredible images he captured of the ceremony; and John Mull’s Meats owner Chuck Frommer, whose team provided food for all of the attendees.

Elsewhere in this exciting issue: readers offer their definition of “community,” paying a visit to Keep Memory Alive’s star-studded 28th Annual Power of Love Gala, and we take a moment to remember the legendary Roberta Flack.

Our outstanding advertisers, contributors, and publishing team make it possible for Las Vegas Black Image to be a free monthly publication that can be picked up in all local Albertsons, Vons, and Whole Foods grocery stores, Mario’s Market, our church community, Las Vegas/Clark County Library District branches, the Clark County Government Center, and select Black-owned business establishments. You can also request home-delivery with your Las Vegas Review Journal newspaper and view it online at LasVegasBlackImage.com.r community a voice.
