Things That Don’t Even Make Sense

How does it even make sense for a plurality of Americans, who voted in November 2024, to elect a convicted felon instead of a crime-fighting prosecutor to the highest elected office in our teetering democracy?

How does it even make sense for our nation, under presidents of both parties, to lose tens of thousands of lives and trillions of dollars fighting cold and hot wars against communism over the past eighty years — to now have a single president throw it all away?

How does it even make sense for allies to now trust America, when plans are fully underway to euphemistically give them a hosing?

How does it even make sense to keep trying to convince poor white folks to stop voting against their own interests, while they continue to sit on the porches of houses up on bricks in Appalachia?

How does it even make sense for Brown persons to seek salvation from a particular political party that is determined to “send them back to where they came from?”

How does it even make sense for Black folks to continue to be so dumb as to say our votes don’t count, while at the same time we are scratching our unemployed behinds?

How does it even make sense for career or independent thinking women to cast votes for persons seeking political power to deny them dominion over their right to make life choices?

How does it even make sense for Dims to cater to people who don’t vote? First get elected, then you can help them.

How does it even make sense for Repugs to think it is sustainable to be labeled as a racist party in an increasingly racially diverse nation?

And for unrelated good-measure, how does it even make sense (in 2025, no less) for a borderline minstrel, Stephen A Smith, to sign a five-year, $100 million contract, while at the same time, a serious journalist like Joy Reid gets fired from her $3 million/year job?

America, why?
