Black Girls Code

It was a distinct honor to be invited to the InNEVation Burkes Center in Las Vegas to witness the first coming-together of the Nevada Chapter of “Black Girls Code,” sponsored by Bally Technologies. Organizers Lauren Burke Bennett and Lisa Mosley spearhead this national nonprofit organization, which is part of the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) national initiative to expose girls from underrepresented communities to STEM-related industries.

U-CAN: Historical black college recruitment fair coming to Las Vegas

In 1988, educator Dr. Alan Rowe and his wife, Donna, decided to create a movement for black college awareness. Inspired their own son’s attendance at Jackson State University, they established the United College Action Network (U-CAN).
